My Best Body

Hallelujah, fall is finally here and winter is coming!! You may be asking yourself, why is she so excited and happy? Well, for this large body female sweater-weather is my best friend.

You see, growing up in a large brown body with labels like mixed, Oreo, half-breed, interracial, the "N" word, and my all time favorite Mulatto was literally exhausting not to mention in this body I was secretly hiding behind my queer self for over 50 years. Why am I telling you all this, because I believe there is someone out there that can identify with my story who needs to connect with someone who has been there, done that and wants to be part of a community of like-minded folks to uncover and discover who they are, love who they are and just be who they want to BE without judgment!!

Even though, my journey of transformation has been long and pretty damn hard I wouldn't trade my life for the easier softer way. I can honestly say I like who I am and have found healing (become whole) from the trauma within. I have learned to love my best body in spite of how I was raised or how I saw myself in the eyes of others.

Recently, I starting coaching a group of folks who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous People of Color or Culture as I prefer to address them), Asian Americans and Indonesias who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder or disordered eating. To be perfectly honest I didn't know a whole lot about ED, although I have struggling with it all my life. I have coached hundreds of people with substance use and mental health challenges but not specifically ED. When I started to do my research on anything associated with eating disorders e.g. symptoms, treatment etc. I found there are 30 millions people living with an eating disorder. So, why don't we hear more about it, especially in ethnic communities? Maybe it's because the prevalence of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other types of eating disorders has mainly focused on how white women and girls are affected and treated; and there is little to no data that shows how ethnic groups are also affected. But we know that eating disorders like substance use and mental health challenges do not discriminate. In fact, in the Latino and Black community there is a high rate of binge eating disorder and 10 million men have struggled with an eating disorder at some point in their lives. No wonder my struggles with my weight and engaging in every diet plan and guru out there didn't work or wasn't the right fit for me.

I'm going to stop there for now, more will be revealed. I love to hear your comments of what came up for you from this blog. Also, I will be providing resource links to download and for purchase.

Let's co-create a community of healing and transformation.

Thank you!
